Business Students Hold Entrepreneurial Expo 2024

In an impressive display of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, students from the Business Level 3 programme hosted an Entrepreneurial Expo 2024 earlier this month. The event provides a platform for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their event management skills and innovative business ideas. Thirteen teams armed with £50 each competed to make the most profit with wide-ranging business ideas. The shoe cleaning business led by Ahmad Barzan, emerged victorious by transforming scuffed and crumpled trainers to their former glory. Using water jets, an iron and a range of brushes, at £10.99 a pair and half price for a second, Ahmad’s team made £150 in profit.

Explaining why his team chose to provide shoe cleaning, Ahmad said: “I have experience. I have my own dry cleaning shop. In my opinion, a service is better because once you have all the equipment and you’ve already made all your money back from giving out service, you’re just making pure profit – whereas with a product you are constantly making items and paying out for materials.”

Despite the seemingly straightforward task, the process was anything but easy. From brainstorming sessions to meticulous planning, each group navigated challenges with resilience and determination.

As well as the sneaker cleaning service, there were tantalising treats such as bubble tea, smash burgers, milkshakes, sweets, doughnuts and freshly baked cookies. Engaging activities such as the VR gaming room and online trivia competition were also on offer, and must-have jewellery and other fashion items were available for sale too.

Jasmin Arrora from Team VR Gaming said: “In the future, if one of us were to run an event like this again, we’d know how to do it. Everything we have done so far on our course has given us the skills and the knowledge to be able to do what we are doing right now.”

Business Level 3 teacher, Amina Bashir said: “Our students emerged not only as entrepreneurs but also as leaders. Their ability to navigate challenges, solve problems, and bring their collective vision to life was a testament to their resilience and determination.

“Entrepreneurial Expo was the culmination of months of hard work, and for these students, it was the beginning of their journey towards success in the world of business.”
